This week must be our week to meet up with old friends.
We won “free chicken for a year” at Chick-fil-A. Lindsay entered our names the last time we went, and we got a call yesterday telling us we won. They gave us 52 free combo meals. So, we’ll get to go every other week together for free! That’s worth like $250 if you think about it. We’ll definitely make good use of them.
I told Lindsay that I want to put up some random thoughts, funny comments, etc. from our lives to keep interest up in our blog. So, here’s my first random thought…
You know the song “You’re So Vain”? I hate the song for various reasons but the main one is this… She is singing to some guy who she thinks is selfish, vain, etc. and says, “You’re so vain. You probably think this song is about you. Don’t you? Don’t you?”
The statement is dumb on multiple levels, namely that the song IS ABOUT HIM!
My research advisor, Dr. Cooks, was on an online radio show yesterday called “Science and Society.”
He was interviewed about the basics of our field, mass spectrometry, and its applications. Listening to it may provide some understanding about the basics of mass spec and what our group does specifically. However, I must warn you that the interviewers’ questions were not very good…I wouldn’t have even known how to answer them. ( :
Alright…my dearest husband is trying to turn our blog into a big mass of dorkiness, so I’m intervening.
He said that if I wanted it to have different content, then I had to add it.
So…here I go…
Umm…
Well…

The Colts had such a good season, only to be followed up with a sucky ending. They were totally thrown out of sync all game on both sides of the ball. You have to give credit to the Steelers…Their blitzing schemes and running game were excellent today.
I passed my third cume exam. I’ve taken five and passed three…leaving me 14 tries to pass 2 more tests. I will very likely pass the one coming up this weekend because it’s over a topic that I know fairly well. If so, that would leave me 13 tries to pass one test. So, I’m in good shape. Hopefully I will be done before this school year is over; that woud be sweet!
( : Mike’s pretty confident that he passed the cume exam he took this morning. That would make him 4/6.
Wow! The school gives them TWENTY tries. I’m so incredibly proud of all the work he’s doing. I’m also proud of him for his commitment to a healthy lifestyle. We’ve really been doing great, and we’re excited about it. We talked about expectations at small group last Sunday, and I’ve been thinking about it all week.
Let me first just say that our worship service this morning was amazing! People were pouring out their hearts and souls to God in new and fresh ways. As I was leading, I could tell that everyone was finally starting to grasp the fact that church and worship are not about what we get out of it, but simply giving God the praise that He’s due.
I took some cool pictures of our shiny new wedding rings during our honeymoon. I posted one of them on a site called stock.xchng for people to use if they wanted. I got an email from a woman asking if she could use it, and I agreed. It’s not much, but here’s the link. It feels cool to have someone appreciate the picture.
This week I had to give the Tuesday and Thursday lectures for CHM 111. This is a class of a few hundred students that meets in one of the biggest classrooms on Purdue’s campus. On Tuesday, I had about 2 hours notice that I was lecturing. I thought that was bad, but I only got about 20 minutes warning for the Thursday lecture!
