Can you guess how long it took us to make a claim on our health insurance for 2009?
Twenty-three hours and forty-three minutes. No, I'm not kidding.
Late tonight, when Ruby had finally fallen asleep after an hour and a half straight of crying and soothing, I decided to open the kids' final Christmas gifts and put them away. I was using my very sharp paring knife to cut one of the zip ties. Just as I was thinking, "This isn't very wise," I stabbed myself between my thumb and pointer finger on my left hand. Very hard.

It's that time of year: everyone declares that this year will be the best one yet. Everyone resolves to do at least one thing better. There's a sense of newness: new beginnings, new chances, new opportunities... It's incredibly intoxicating.

If you know Mike and I in person, then you most likely know that we love music: all aspects of music. It's an incredibly intricate part of our lives. I have always wondered if our children would like music, too.

For the past three or four days, Burke has randomly been putting himself to sleep. I didn't want to get too excited, because even though he's technically 15 weeks old, he's really only 7 weeks old. It could be a coincidence. So I kept bribing people (with my big sad tired eyes) to take care of Burke for a couple of hours at a time this weekend while I caught some extra shut-eye.
Then, on top of the putting himself to sleep deal, we experienced something undeniable:

I know, I know...I'm mixing my SNL skits. But, seriously, I just wanted to warn you that this post may come off more like the newest SNL spoof than the latest random blog post. :)
It's snowing today...in a lot of places. But most relevantly, it's snowing here at my house. My back yard is covered in a pristine layer of glistening white solid coldness. As I was washing dishes, I stared out my window and watched the big chunky flakes fall to the ground. And it moved me.
