So We Had A Party

Our Little Man turned over his first year last week, and we decided to celebrate with a party!  :)  We invited friends, family, and all who have supported us through Burke's lifetime to come and hang out with us at Lafayette's Indoor Waterpark, Buccaneer Bay.

We were blessed with lots of family and friends who made a concentrated effort to spend the day with us.  One of my friends from college even made a three-hour trek from Ohio with her family for the occasion!  Thanks for coming, Sarah, Andy, Joey, and Mox!  We really appreciated having you!  :)

Of course, our family was there in fine form to love on our little guy!

Burke is really blessed to have several great grandparents who are very involved in his life!

Pop and Poppa wanted to keep their girlish figures:

Really, they were just watching the Colts game in the exercise room.  :)

Aunt Megan helped keep Ruby entertained:

Nonna and Gigi helped fill in the gaps, love on the kids, and keep the party rolling:

Ruby was dressed especially well for Burke's Big Bash!

She was especially excited about her new boots:

Pink, patent-leather combat boots, to be exact!

We gathered around to sing "Happy Birthday", and then we let the little guy dig into his cake!

(Introducing him to sweet, sugary goodness)

Deciding that he really digs the sweet, sugary goodness!

Daddy used the blue icing to make a special "jersey" for the birthday boy:

(Go Colts!)

And once Burke had his fill of cake, we cleaned him up and opened a few presents.  Considering he hadn't had a nap, he was in a beautifully wonderful mood:

And when the gifts were opened, it was time for swimming:

By the end of the day, our little guy was tuckered out.  We put him (and Sister) into his (and her) new PJ's and sent them off to bed.  There were no complaints.  :)

If you think the cake looked familiar, that was on purpose:

I figure the next kid can have purple, red, green, yellow, or any other color.  But I'll be making the same kind of cake each year!  Then, I can get a series of pictures to hang on the wall.  Like these:

Man, I love these kids!  :)  I can't believe I have a one year old and a two year old (soon to be three year old!)  Where has the time gone??

Burke has his one year appointment on Thursday.  We'll be sure to give you the One Year Report at that time.  :)

Happy Birthday, Burkey Boy!  Your family loves you!!

Happy Birthday, Burke!

My sweet son, I have been praying for you for a very, very long time.  I have prayed silly little prayers like, "Dear God, thank you for Burke's long eyelashes.  I love them!"  I have prayed gut-wrenching prayers like, "God, please...please keep his heart beating long enough for him to live.  Please, God."  And tonight, I'm praying a very simple prayer, "God, thank you.  He's amazing and incredible.  I don't deserve him.  Thank you so much."

One year ago, I was getting ready to go to bed, and I was so excited for the day that was to come.  I was going to see you in 3-D!  :)  I couldn't wait to see if we would get a couple of good shots to share with all of our friends on the blog.

Instead, almost exactly twelve hours later, I was staring in horror at an ultrasound screen.  Your heart was barely beating, and I was sure we were losing you.  The doctor rushed me into an emergency c-section, and you were born barely an hour after I entered the ultrasound room.

I wasn't able to hold you or see you, so this is the first real glimpse I got of my miraculous son:

Tonight, I realized that your looks haven't changed much at all:

Your beautiful face made me smile and brought me to tears.  Your body was so tiny and so fragile:

But, oh!  The difference a year (and a great mighty God) makes!

In twelve hours, you will be one year old.  It has been a wonderful year, full of moments that I will never forget.  You have changed our lives.  You have increased our faith in God, and you have given us a brand new appreciation for life!

Your smile is currently your most distinctive feature.  Wherever we go, you happily offer your smiles to anyone who crosses your path.  I love it when someone says, "Oh!  I made him smile!  That is just the best!"  :)  You are such a joy-bringer!  What a wonderful quality to possess!

While you bring joy to others, there's a special person who brings a lot of joy to you.  :)  Your sister can make you laugh and smile like no one else.  No greater sound exists than the echoes of you guys' mutual laugher.

God has blessed me beyond my wildest dreams, and you are a great part of that blessing, sweet boy.  No matter how big you grow, you will always be my Little Man.

I love you so much, that I can't even figure out the proper way to express my emotions.  You are an incredible gift from God, and I hope that you have a First Birthday that is full of wonder.

Enjoy your day, Booster Boy!  We are SO THANKFUL to be celebrating a full year of loving you!!

Crazy

It seems absolutely impossible to me that it has been an entire year since I wrote this post:

I'll have more about this matter later tonight or tomorrow.  I just can't believe it.
