Our Little Man turned over his first year last week, and we decided to celebrate with a party! :) We invited friends, family, and all who have supported us through Burke's lifetime to come and hang out with us at Lafayette's Indoor Waterpark, Buccaneer Bay.
We were blessed with lots of family and friends who made a concentrated effort to spend the day with us. One of my friends from college even made a three-hour trek from Ohio with her family for the occasion! Thanks for coming, Sarah, Andy, Joey, and Mox! We really appreciated having you! :)
Of course, our family was there in fine form to love on our little guy!
Burke is really blessed to have several great grandparents who are very involved in his life!
Pop and Poppa wanted to keep their girlish figures:
Really, they were just watching the Colts game in the exercise room. :)
Aunt Megan helped keep Ruby entertained:
Nonna and Gigi helped fill in the gaps, love on the kids, and keep the party rolling:
Ruby was dressed especially well for Burke's Big Bash!
She was especially excited about her new boots:
Pink, patent-leather combat boots, to be exact!
We gathered around to sing "Happy Birthday", and then we let the little guy dig into his cake!
(Introducing him to sweet, sugary goodness)
Deciding that he really digs the sweet, sugary goodness!
Daddy used the blue icing to make a special "jersey" for the birthday boy:
(Go Colts!)
And once Burke had his fill of cake, we cleaned him up and opened a few presents. Considering he hadn't had a nap, he was in a beautifully wonderful mood:
And when the gifts were opened, it was time for swimming:
By the end of the day, our little guy was tuckered out. We put him (and Sister) into his (and her) new PJ's and sent them off to bed. There were no complaints. :)
If you think the cake looked familiar, that was on purpose:

I figure the next kid can have purple, red, green, yellow, or any other color. But I'll be making the same kind of cake each year! Then, I can get a series of pictures to hang on the wall. Like these:

Man, I love these kids! :) I can't believe I have a one year old and a two year old (soon to be three year old!) Where has the time gone??
Burke has his one year appointment on Thursday. We'll be sure to give you the One Year Report at that time. :)
Happy Birthday, Burkey Boy! Your family loves you!!
Yesterday, we celebrated Ruby's first year of life. When trying to decide who to invite to the celebration, we realized that there were literally a couple of hundred people who have touched Ruby's life (and our life!!) in the past year. Since we couldn't fit that many people in Zach and Sarah's house, we tried to limit the number of people as best as we could. The number of people who wanted to celebrate with us was absolutely overwhelming, and we ended up changing the location to the church. We maxed out the bonus room, and many people enjoyed the day with us. Many of you reading this blog were in attendance yesterday, and we cannot thank you enough. We are blessed beyond measure by our family and friends, and we can't accurately express how much we appreciate having you in our lives.
Ruby has not been feeling well the past two weeks, and we're not exactly sure what's wrong. Yesterday was no exception, but she did really well for being a sick baby. She didn't seem phased by the number of people, and she seemed to enjoy her carrot stick and macaroni and cheese. Of course, she enjoyed her cake, too! She didn't quite understand why Mommy kept taking away all the fun toys she was opening, but she was a good sport. Without further ado, here is the picture proof of the event!!
The beautiful birthday girl and her daddy and sitting in her birthday chair:

The party decorations and her cake. (Since Ruby can't eat anything from a bakery, I made her cake. I did the best I could, but, ultimately, I was sad at how pathetic it looked. I had grand visions of her first birthday cake. You can ask Aunt Kim about it...)

Enjoying her macaroni and cheese:

Enjoying her cake! ( : Can you tell this was my favorite part??

Getting cleaned up:

Opening presents, finding a blanket, and deciding it's time for a nap. Hee hee hee!

Thanks again to everyone who helped make Ruby's birthday party so special. We love you very much!
