Here's a pretty shaky tour of the "new" house.

mold and a funny commercial

Two things… 1.) We just noticed a small amount of mold where the wall meets the tub in our bathroom. It seems like the seal was not very good between the two. The contractor who did all the work is coming to look at it in the morning. Hopefully it’s no big deal and the fix will be easy. I just hope it doesn’t involve ripping out drywall. I’ll be ticked if it does. 2.) Totally unrelated…This commercial is hilarious.

funny story (totally worth the read)

You all know that we have been remodeling our bathroom and painting our bedroom, as well. Many of you also know that it has been a stressful process. Basically, the bathroom is incredible, it has just been a struggle to get to this point. Well, it’s all done now! Praise God! We did get some comic relief on Monday night, though! The only thing we had left to do on Monday night was to nail down the baseboard and the door trim. We started with the door trim (so we could make sure the baseboard was placed correctly.) For some reason, the stupid nails kept going in crooked. No matter how straight we hammered them in, they wanted to go off course. One of the nails got stuck REALLY BAD halfway into the door jamb. We both pulled on the nail with the hammer a few times, and it wasn’t budging at all. Finally, I just told Mike to leave it, and we’d get my Dad to bring up the Sawz-all. Then, we could just saw off the part that was sticking out of the door jamb. I came into the living room, and Mike wanted finish up a couple of things. After a few minutes, I heard a huge crash come from the bathroom. I jumped up and ran into the bathroom to find my husband lying in the tub on top of the shower curtain with a hammer in one hand and a nail in the other. He got a big smile on his face and said, “I’m a lot less frustrated now. I got the nail out.” I started laughing a little bit and said, “I’m glad you’re okay.” He said, “Well, I did punch myself in the face and knock myself down in the process. Just call me Bob Vila.” That’s when I started laughing hysterically. ( : Hope you all enjoyed the story!

bathroom remodeling

The construction people should be starting the remodeling of our bathroom today. We’ll try to have pictures up as progress is made throughout the week. They should be done within 5 days.

busy and good weekend

Well, the weekend is not quite over, but it sure has been busy so far! On Thursday, I left to visit my family and friends in Terre Haute. It ended up being a huge blessing, because my mom had a procedure done at the hospital. The sedation really affected her, and she was knocked out for most of Friday. ( : I was able to drive her around and let her rest up. We had lunch with several of the women from my childhood church, and it was wonderful! On Friday evening, my dad came up to Lafayette to help us start the demolition on our bathroom. The boys made a LOT of progress. I don’t have a picture of the bathroom before, because Mike deleted all of the pictures of the house from when we moved in. The biggest progress of the night was the removal of the wall between the useless closet and the bathroom. Hopefully, that will give us a lot more room in the bathroom and make way for a more efficient closet. Here is a picture of Mike standing in the doorway of the bathroom. To his left, you can see the door to the old closet. There used to be a big fat wall there! Bye bye wall!

Anyway, we still have to tear the plaster off of two walls and rip up the flooring. (That should make for a fun afternoon tomorrow!) We sure are thankful for Dad’s help, though.

On Saturday morning, we gave Peyton and Molly to new homes. Peyton is now living with a Purdue Graduate who seemed very excited about having a dog. He is a golf pro at a course in Indy, and he is allowed to take Peyton to work with him each day! Peyton will LOVE running around the golf course and meeting new people. Peyton also has two new animal siblings: SNAKES! ( : That should be VERY interesting. Molly is going to be living with two new siblings, as well. It will be interesting to hear how Molly fares with a cat. She did excellent with her new human brother! Four year old Milo was very excited about buying a new bone and some “dog candy” (dog treats) for Molly. He is also intent on teaching her how to play “Duck, Duck, Goose!” Milo’s parents are very excited about having a dog in the home once again. It was a little sad to say goodbye to our first children. I cried when we drove away from Peyton’s new home. We know that they are going to great families who will love them and give them great attention, though. We will be getting photos and updates from each of the families, so we’ll be sure to share those updates with you all!

On Saturday afternoon, we spent time visiting with the Goodwins. It was really great hang out and play with Riley. Megan shared some of her photos from their vacation to NYC, and the new Grandma Goodwin gave Baby Goodwin his/her first vacation souvenier! It’s a cute and cuddly lamb, named Winky. We’re pretty sure we’ll be changing the name to Lambie. ( : We've included a picture:

We also went to see “Talladega Nights” starring Will Ferrell. Please let me warn you that NONE of us enjoyed the movie. It was absolutely terrible. Mom and I tried to console ourselves with popcorn and Kit Kat Bites, but it didn’t work very well. After the movie, we had dinner at Fazoli’s. Mom and Dad went out to mow Linda Trogden’s yard, and Mike and I headed home.

We are truly, truly blessed with wonderful and amazing families. We are so thankful to have all of you in our lives. Thank you for spending time with us and loving on us this weekend! We love you!

Thermostat

Today we installed a new digital thermostat for our house. We hope that it turns out to be a good investment. I’m sure that it will be. It has weekday and weekend programs for heating and cooling. So it should be pretty darn efficient at keeping the temperature comfortable while we’re at home. It even has an Indiglo face so that we can see it at night as we’re going to bed. This is small, but it’s the first of many updates that we plan to make to our home. We’re now at a point where we can financially begin to do some little things…it’s exciting times.
