For Mother's Day, my family got me a gift card to Barnes and Noble. I used it to by a literacy tool for Ruby and a journal for myself.

I didn't need a new journal. I've got at least four that are only 25-50% full at this time. But I saw this journal, and I couldn't resist it. Besides, I was using my gift card...why shouldn't I buy something a little unnecessary?
Plus, it was just beautiful...

I brought it home, and it has wandered, empty, around this house for the past month or so. It even traveled down to Nashville with me...just in case. I've been waiting for the perfect words to write on its pages.

Late on Tuesday night, some words began to form in my mind. Good words that turned into sentences. Good sentences that began to bind together into the beginnings of a chapter...
So I wrote them down.
In my beautiful journal.
It's my hope that they multiply and turn themselves into a beautiful story.
For now, I'll keep them tucked safely in the pages of this safe space.

Do you have hopes, dreams, or aspirations that feel almost too vulnerable to share with anyone else? What do you do in order to give them room to breathe? How do you encourage yourself to give them the time, attention, and care they need to thrive?
On a lighter note: Do you keep a journal? or four? :) What do your journals look like? Do you choose a journal for its beauty or its practicality?
Lately at Elston Family Church we've been playing a couple of songs from Jonathan Stockstill. This is one named "Open Up the Sky". Enjoy:
I have finally launched a site that I've been working on for awhile:

http://www.thesmalltownheroes.com
The site is for a band called SmallTown Heroes, located here in Lafayette, IN. An old friend of ours (from the BCM days) named Dallas Johnson plays the guitar and mandolin and sings for them. I acutally enjoy their music a lot. You can listen to some tracks on their "listen page". Lindsay and I are going to try to make it to one of their shows in the near future (see their events calendar).
If you know anyone else who needs a well-done, cheap website please direct them to me, and I'll be glad to help.
This is video from Christmas that I forgot to put up. Kyle is rocking out on guitar, while Lindsay tries to sing a song that she doesn't know and Kayce Swofford bangs away on the drums. It's pretty good stuff.
I saw this on Daryl and Jenny’s blog. I think it’s hilarious.

We saw Jon McLaughlin for free at Tippecanoe Mall yesterday. It was some promotion for Simon Malls. He didn’t have his band with him, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. That guy’s definitely going to hit it big in the future.
I said from the beginning that I think he’s going to win. Last night’s performance was sweet…

Yesterday we went with Zach and Sarah to Slayter Hill at Purdue to watch Switchfoot. Unfortunately, Lindsay and Sarah had to leave before they actually started, because they had to get Sarah’s house ready for small group…Also, we didn’t realize that there would be three opening bands who did six songs each. Anyway, Zach and I got to see the majority of the show, and it was pretty sweet. They covered Beyonce’s “Crazy Right Now” song and did this cool thing where they all froze in place for about a minute before resuming a song. Above is a cool picture that was on the Facebook event page for the concert. I did not take the picture, although I wish I had. It’s pretty sweet. Jon is a crazy man on stage, and their new (not really all that “new” now) guitar player really adds a lot to their songs.
