Well, I'm twelve hours into my time management experiment. I'm only going to actively log between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and midnight. Between midnight and 5:00 a.m., it's safe to say that I am either sleeping, pumping, feeding Burke, or soothing Burke. i.e. not wasting time. So...in my seven hours of active time logging, I have:
*spent 2.5 hours sleeping
*spent 1 hours pumping
*spent 1.5 hours preparing bottles and feeding Burke
*spent .5 hour getting the kids wiped down, cleaned up, and changed from the p.j.'s to day-clothes
*spent .5 hour doing dishes
*spent 1.5 hours doing "kid care" (soothing Burke, reading with Ruby, playing with Ruby, etc...)
*spent 45 minutes on the computer and/or watching t.v.
You'll notice that this adds up to 8 hours and 15 minutes of activity in a seven hour period. That's because I have multi-tasked during many of these activities. (i.e. While I'm pumping, I can do a lot of things, including computer time and reading time with Ruby. While I'm soothing Burke, I can read to Ruby. Etc...)
My observations so far?
1. It takes longer to do some of the things than I thought. For instance, if you had asked me how long it takes to do the dishes yesterday, I would have told you ten minutes. And that might be true if it's a small load of just lunch dishes. However, when I'm washing breakfast dishes, nighttime bottles, pump parts, and lunch dishes, it takes a half an hour. Or, if you had asked me how long it takes for Burke to eat a bottle, I would have told you ten minutes. But it takes him at least fifteen, and sometimes as much as a half hour, if he's distracted or really hungry.
Okay, my pumping session is over. Back to time logging I go! :) I hope you're all having a good day!
