Am I the Only One?

posted by lindsay on January 9th, 2009

Am I the only one who has a refrigerator without an automatic ice-maker?  Probably not.

But, am I the only who does this:

I love my ice.  I need my ice.  I do not like drinks that are warm.  I get very picky about my ice/ice trays.  I even asked for new "nice" ice trays for Christmas.  If someone empties the ice tray, I expect that they re-fill it and stick it back in to start a new batch of ice.  I value my ice so much that I even save it.  That's right.  I said I save it.  After I've finished a drink, if I still have ice cubes left, then I stick the cup (with the leftover ice cubes) in the freezer, so that I'll still have some ice for my next drink.

The thought has occured to me that it's probably a little odd, but I didn't really think I had a problem.  Until today...

I had a friend over for lunch, and she had a Diet Coke with ice.  After she left, I was cleaning up, and I noticed that both of our drinks had leftover ice.  I poured the left-over, watered down Diet Coke down the drain, and I rinsed off the ice (and her germs.)  Then, I combined her ice with my ice and stuck it in the freezer.  I now have a full glass of ice waiting for me when I get thirsty again.

It might be time for an intervention.

(And why in the world can't I be this thrifty/careful/resourceful with all the areas of my life?  I mean, I don't wanna be extreme like the people who melt the small left-over pieces of soap together to create new soap bars, but I could curb some of my wastefulness for sure.)

I don't!

I don't have an automatic ice maker either and expect my ice trays to be filled up when emptied. There's nothing worse than you going to get ice and there being empty ice trays. :( Thanks for idea of saving the left over ice in the cups though. :)

YES!!

You are so weird. I guess I'll give you the saving of the ice, especially because you have an ice cube tray and it's more tedious to get more ice. Most of us can part with ice pretty easily and just dump it in the sink....and feel okay about it.

However, I am disturbed that you saved your friend's ice....for you. That is just, yeah, I don't know what to say. The thought has NEVER crossed my mind to do something like that. Wow, thanks for being honest?

:-)

no ice here

We don't have an automatic ice maker, either. I am super picky about my ice trays being filled at all times. :) Even so, I had to laugh at this post because your ice issues are really endearing. It makes me love you all the more.

We both need an

We both need an intervention...I have an ice maker, but I don't like the shape of the ice, so I buy bagged ice. It's awful.

Me neither...

I don't have an ice maker either. I have ice issues, too. I like A LOT of ice. We have 6 trays, so it's a good thing we have 2 other freezers for food! I also use the trays for making baby food, so I tend to stock pile ice in a plastic container.

I have to have my drinks very very cold. Whenever Frank gets me a glass of water, I have to remind him to fill it to the tippy top with ice. He doesn't get it. Two ice cubes does nothing for me!

Huh.

I really like you, but you're crazy.

;-)

I feel your pain...

...and I completely sympathize with your addiction. So, from one addict to another, I don't think that you were crazy to salvage the remaining ice. I'd go with "resourceful." :)

yikes!

Yikes! Did you come to your senses and throw the whole cup of mixed ice out? You're right...you might need and intervention. Well, maybe just more ice trays..... :)) still love ya....
