If you know Mike and I in person, then you most likely know that we love music: all aspects of music. It's an incredibly intricate part of our lives. I have always wondered if our children would like music, too.
In the past couple of weeks, Ruby has been really vocal about music. In the car, she would say, "Nooo! Nooo!" to certain kinds of music, but then be fine when we switched it to a different song. (She's not too much of a fan of Linkin Park...yet.) *wink* She would also occasionally tell Mike and I to stop singing. "No song, Mommy. You no sing." However, at bedtime, she sings her bedtime song with us.
I was really starting to wonder if she was just trying to tolerate this thing that Mommy and Daddy seem to enjoy so much.
I'm not sure if I blogged about it, but Ruby recently started singing, "E-I-E-I-O!" to Mike and I. We think she learned it at church, because we had never taught her that song. In the past three days, she has randomly started singing new songs to me that I didn't know she knew: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, Jesus Loves Me, and Hush Little Baby. She was surprising me so much at first that I was saying, "How do you know that song?" in a really surprised voice.
This morning, after she started singing Hush Little Baby, I looked at her with a surprised expression, and she said, "How you know dat song?" Hee hee hee!!
I'm so excited that she seems to enjoy music. I'm even somewhat suspicious that she may have been telling us not to sing only when we were singing songs that she didn't know. Because in the past couple of days, she has been asking me to sing songs with her, but she dictates which songs to make sure she knows the words.
Anyway, she's sitting in her high chair singing Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star as she eats lunch. I'm so thankful to see an interest in music emerging. I don't expect her to become some great musical star, but I'm glad that she enjoys something that her Daddy and I enjoy so much, as well. :)
