Should've Taken Bets!!!

Can you guess how long it took us to make a claim on our health insurance for 2009?

Twenty-three hours and forty-three minutes.  No, I'm not kidding.

Late tonight, when Ruby had finally fallen asleep after an hour and a half straight of crying and soothing, I decided to open the kids' final Christmas gifts and put them away.  I was using my very sharp paring knife to cut one of the zip ties.  Just as I was thinking, "This isn't very wise," I stabbed myself between my thumb and pointer finger on my left hand.  Very hard.

I stayed very calm, but I very obviously needed medical attention.  Since it was 11:45 and the kids were asleep, I didn't really know what to do.  Mike called 9-1-1 (that's how bad it was), but then we decided just to pack up the kids and go.  I *really* didn't want to pay for an ambulance.

When I had been in the ER waiting room for forty-five minutes, a very kind young police officer came out to inquire whether or not there was a Mrs. Goodwin present.  Of course, I was.  Present, that is.  He made sure I was okay and asked me how it happened.  He double-checked me on how it happened, I assume to make sure that Mike hadn't stabbed me between the thumb and pointer finger...

Finally, I was called back to the ER, and I received my stitches.  Just two measly stitches, but the Lidocaine didn't kick in fast enough, and I felt it all.  (Ouch!!)  I also bled for a full five minutes after I received my Tetanus shot and had the nurse a bit worried.  She finally got it to clot, and I got released.

Mike had taken the kids back home to bed, but I couldn't get ahold of anyone to come pick me up at 2:45 a.m.  (Imagine that...)  So he packed the kids back up, and they came and got me.

Everyone is soundly asleep now, and my hand is hurting really bad, so it's time for bed.  Hope you all had a MUCH less exciting New Year's Day.  :)

If you're a Loser, don't forget to Weigh-In before Tuesday night!!
