and his daddy and mommy?
Today, Caleb was diagnosed with Group B Strep that has entered his blood stream. (Sepsis) Instead of being discharged today, as they had planned, Marc and Stephanie learned that the hospital will be a part of their lives for the next 10 to 14 days. Caleb has to stay in the Special Care Nursery (a level II NICU) while he receives antibiotics to treat the infection.
Right now, Caleb is doing great! He is calm and peaceful, eating well, and his vitals are good. They found the infection quickly, so they were able to start treatment right away, which offers a great prognosis. Simply pray that his body reacts quickly to his antibiotics and that he runs into no further complications while he waits to go home.
Caleb also had a spinal tap this morning to determine whether the infection had gotten into his spinal fluid yet. They will have the results of that test in about 48 hours. Please pray that the result is negative: no infection in the spinal fluid.
Obviously, this news was quite a shock, as Stephanie was full-term, and Caleb seemed to be perfectly healthy. Marc and Stephanie never imagined that an extended stay would be part of their experience.
Mike and I truly understand their feelings and thoughts right now, and we would like to ask you to pray for them. Please pray that God will grant them large amounts of comfort and patience at this time. Pray that God would calm their worries and still their hearts. Pray that they would be constantly reminded that God is still totally in control.
Afterall, the Goodwin cousins could grow up and start their own Neonatology Practice now. :)
Anyway, I know their hearts are aching as they go home without their little boy, and my heart aches for them. If you would join me in covering them in prayer, I would really appreciate it.
Thank you, friends! You are wonderful. We'll keep you updated.
